New dad, new job and getting the balance right: Why The Martec’s the perfect fit for me

I just became a dad for the first time (to a little girl called Mabel) and I was fortunate enough to be between jobs for her first couple of months, which allowed me to spend a lot of time with her. I took the time to really reflect and think about the sort of life I wanted to create. It was a chance for a fresh start for me and my family, and I wanted to make sure my new job supported the life I wanted to build.

When I spoke to @Raaj, the founder of The Martec, he mentioned that he couldn’t wait to go home to his kids and straight away I thought that was a good sign this company shared my values.

Now I’m at The Martec and have both a new family and a new job, and I couldn’t be more excited about it!

A little bit about what I do and our awesome culture

My current role is as an Account Executive. My previous roles in tech sales have been in business development where I would qualify leads and book meetings for other account execs to close. Here, I’m part of the entire sales cycle and feel a lot more invested in the prospects, challenges and how we are truly able to solve them.

I find this way more rewarding than what I’ve done in the past. It also adds a lot more variety to my day which is obviously more interesting for me.

From everything I’ve experienced, the team culture at Martec is genuinely centred around an interest in helping and supporting each other first and foremost, so that together we can smash our objectives.

Spending quality time together at lunch, and taking time in our meetings to catch up about things outside of work really helps create a culture of friendship. We all enjoy working together, which makes it much easier to take and give feedback. We’re all on the same team and heading towards the same goal.

I’ve also been benefiting a lot from the company’s general flexibility. I had brought up the fact that I wanted to go and work from Canada for a while in the summer early on (especially as most of my family hasn’t met my little girl) and this was only encouraged by management. They went through and worked out all the ways we could get me best prepared for my time there.

Things like that enable me to look after my family’s needs and inspire me to work even harder for The Martec. I don’t take it for granted. I know not all companies provide this.

Transparent and simple – it’s easy to settle in here

The biggest surprise for me when I started was how transparent and simple everything was. From setting up all the tools and systems I needed, to training and asking questions, it all felt very natural and straightforward. And what really helped was that my manager took the time to explain the ‘why’ behind the way things are done, and the principles. This allowed for some space and time to understand concepts and strategies that made me feel part of the whole thing – instead of just being told what to do.

If you’re a flexible person who likes putting new ideas to the test and goes for it, you’ll enjoy the environment at The Martec. If you’re keen to be part of a close-knit, supportive team, even better. If you want a repetitive, punch-in, punch-out job, this isn’t the place for you. Things evolve quickly here!
